Lately, I've been a little obsessed, with sleep, dreams, a movie, and a song. I have been hearing this song everywhere it seems too. In other movies, during a football game, and at work. The song is Hans Zimmer's Time. To truly put it into context, watch the last bit of the movie.



I made a CD for my sister's birthday with the best remixes of  Hans Zimmer's Time and I wanted to share with all of you.

When I was young, I listened to a lot of electronic based music - New Order, Depeche Mode, etc. But it wasn't until the early 90's and in particular 1993 that I got into DJ led dance and rave music. You see, I was stationed in Germany in the military at the time and the rave clubs and parties over there were burgeoning. I got an earful of that repetitive, driving sound and the vibe from all the other participants and I couldn't stop. I wanted to share a few of the anthems that I still listen to after all these years - the ones that were formative in my music education, whether they be techno, house, trance, breakbeat, drum 'n bass, dubstep, trap or downtempo, from that time until the present day.

I really respect Bassnectar. He's made a lot of great music from all genres. This remix of Underworld's Rez is a great attempt. I still like the original better, but I would throw this into a dubstep set in a second ... no questions.

J-Walk - Soul Vibration (extended mix)

Do you ever hear a song and you absolutely have to find out what it's called? Of course you do. Well, that was the case with this one. Time passed and I had nothing but a hum from memory. Then today, I heard it in a commercial. I did my research and found it's origin.

Mancunians (people from Manchester U.K.) Martin Fisher and Martin Desai formed J-Walk in 1996 and released this soulful track in 2000. The duo sampled Freda Payne's "How Do You Say I Don't Love You Anymore".

Released in 2011 for the Soul Assassin's Bass For Your Face album - this "wicked" tune produced by DJ Muggs with assistance from Public Enemy's Chuck D and Hed PE's Jared is proof that good things can happen when such forces collaborate.

Skream aka Oliver Jones is one of dubstep most premier producers. As a teenager, he worked at London's Big Apple Records. He soon had DJ's playing his dubplates created using Fruityloops. He rose to prominence in 2006, when his album Skream! was released. He's done remixes for DJ Zinc, Dave Gahan, The Klaxons, La Roux, and Deadmau5. We get to hear him in this mix, playing out of his normal element, which is almost always a treat.
