I haven't heard Eddie on a track since 1985's Party All The Time. Fortunately, he hooked up with Snoop Lion to create Redlight - a throwback to the heyday of roots reggae. If you haven't understood Snoop Dogg a.k.a. Snoop Lion's transformation into a reggae artist, I would recommend "Reincarnated" - the new documentary by Vice. This isn't a gimmick and Snoop Lion, has got the skills and the heart to do whatever he wants creatively.

Goodbye is one of my favorite songs from my favorite female lead alt rock band from the 90's - The Sundays. Singer Harriet Wheeler's voice is pure magic on this track, especially starting at 2:36 when she introduces beautifully layered vocals. It's one reason, she has been in my fantasies long since before I saw her picture. Unfortunately for me, Harriet is married to longtime band mate and guitarist David Gavurin.

"Nessun dorma" (English: None shall sleep) is an aria from the final act of Giacomo Puccini's opera Turandot, and is one of the best-known tenor arias in all opera. It is sung by Calaf, il principe ignoto (the unknown prince), who falls in love at first sight with the beautiful but cold Princess Turandot. However, any man who wishes to wed Turandot must first answer her three riddles; if he fails, he will be beheaded.

The aria has been sung many many including Plácido Domingo and Pavarotti. It might very well be one of the most recognized love themes in the world.

James Murphy - Live at 12 Years of DFA Records (mix)

Yesterday was a really shitty day for me. While I was at work, I got called into HR and fired. They wouldn't tell me the reason, I can only assume it was for blogging on company time. So, I've been a little down of late and it's good to have inspiration. One person who does inspire me is James Murphy, the man with the eternal 9 o'clock shadow, the lead singer of the now defunct LCD Soundsystem and co-founder of DFA Records. You see, James had a lot of failures. He didn't really do anything with his life until he was in his late thirties, which is inspiring because I'll be hitting 40 this year. He's now 43.

I'm happy to see DFA turning 12 this year. To celebrate, Red Bull has captured a set of James spinning at Grand Prospect Hall in Brooklyn. Lot's of great disco goodness to be had here. Be sure to check out the interview below with him about his trials and tribulations.

Disclosure - When A Fire Starts To Burn

SO much music, so little time. I feel like I'm a little behind in covering the new album by British duo and brothers Guy and Howard Lawrence a.k.a. Disclosure. Their premier album Settle dropped on June 3 and it contains so many great tracks including When A Fire Starts To Burn - a "holy spirit" inducing track that will have you dancing praise to a higher power.

The duo has encountered some recent controversy though when they allegedly faked a set at the Capital FM Summertime Ball in London. According to them, they had no choice as Capital insisted that the technicians had to trigger the tracks themselves to sync visuals. Unfortunately, this seems to be a growing trend.

In the 1990's, trance music swept up the raver flower kids in a wave of euphoria. Platipus Records was one of the labels that brought the best names in trance to the ears of millions. One of their artists, Kaukuta created a project - Terra Ferma. Under the name of Claudio, Kaukuta produced and developed some of the most musical and influential trance music of its time starting with Union jack in 1993, a band he formed with Platipus Records label founder and pioneer Simon Berry. Together they fused their styles and produced some truly unforgettable music that still stands the test of time today.
