LOTS OF NEW MIXES BY ME - NO BOATS AKA AABSTRACT

I wanted to, first off, apologize in not attending to this site as often lately. I've been busy with a lot of other things and I sometimes wonder if there's even a point, as it seems people don't even seem to wander away from social media sites. One of the things that I've been doing lately is making actual mixes on a regular basis and wanted to share them here. I'm trying to do something a little different. I am trying to spin every genre that I love and even make some mixes with different genres. Check out my most recent mixes and follow me on Mixcloud. All have download links as well.

TAKE COVER :: Enrico Sangiuliano - Ghettoblaster

Another banger recommended by my buddy, Weston - Ghettoblaster keeps firing until the clip is empty. DJ and Producer, Enrico Sangiuliano brought his skills on this track.

Starting out as a sound engineer in Italy, he started to produce electronic music in the 90’s. Italy was his playground, with the illegal rave scene exploding, this was where he made his first break.

DOG DAY :: N'to - The Hound

N'to - The Hound
N'to - The Hound
It should be no secret that N'to is one of my favorite producers today. His music can only be described as minimal house / tech / whatever with a hint of French Touch. At least that is the feeling I get when I hear it.

The Hound is a dark and stormy night ... but that dog has the scent. He's closing in, as you run into the void trying to evade him. It's inevitable, you can't escape from the Hound.

SCALES :: N'to - Petite

N'to - Petite
N'to - Petite
It could be argued that the French do many things better - cheese, wine and of course music. This tune is proof. If dolphins had their own soundtrack, this would be it. Hungry Music label creator and talented producer N'to really broke the mold with this song. Petite was only the third track released on the label in 2014. It's become a classic.

FIRST TAKE :: - Jan Blomqvist - Something Says (Live at WEEKEND Rooftop)

Jan Blomqvist - Something Says (Live at WEEKEND Rooftop)
Jan Blomqvist - Something Says (Live at WEEKEND Rooftop)
I wanted to share this incredible song and video. For those who don't know, Berlin-based Jan Blomqvist invented concert techno. He's played all over, including Robot Heart at Burning Man. This song is one of those early morning, dance your ass off bangers. It could be called clubsoul. This is the perfect turning point song for a deejay, midway through a set. Seeing it performed live makes it 10x better.

An incredible remix by Border Community's own Nathan Fake. An incredible techno-maven, Nathan has been producing since 2003. This tune is made for driving fast in the city at a high volume.

FLOATING :: Kollektiv Turmstrasse - Tk Beauty (Original mix)

Kollektiv Turmstrasse - Tk Beauty (Original mix)

Still as yet officially unreleased, Kollektiv Turmstrasse's track "Tk Beauty" is definitely a warm hug on a cold winter day ... or a cold hug on a warm summer day. The song was originally brought to my attention from the duo's Soundcloud mix posted last X-mas; the recommendation from my fellow soundphile, blogger and friend Scotty aka Ansible-Futurist when I was looking for a good mix to check out. I highly recommend listening to the whole thing, though the opener is definitely my favorite. It's very reminiscent of Orbital's classic tune "Halcyon".

RAPTURE :: Deafheaven - Sunbather [FULL ALBUM] (2013)

Barrel~dEM Deafheaven Sunbather
Deafheaven - Sunbather

As I get older, my musical tastes seem to be changing. I've always easily grown bored quickly of popular music and now it seems that electronic music - the music that I loved from the early 90's until now is what is popular ... at least in some form.

We Are You In the Future - Martyn

The proficient techno producer from Amsterdam was in town (SF) this past weekend and played a killer set at the high-ceilinged, new-speaker-system-pounding club Mighty. Martyn did an excellent job of course, playing a handful of jams I was familiar with prior to seeing him live in addition to a ton of wicked new productions! There was also some live performance-improvisational-type business going on as well... :D

In honor of the excellent set he played, and the quality music he puts out, I wanted to post my favorite track of his- We Are You In the Future:

It's an epic techno journey that jams right when it should! Takes you places, but keeps it movin'.

I recently came across a remix of the track by Redshape that's really nice, a much chiller take on Martyn's futurist journey:

Redshape is a character! His identity is unknown to the public and he goes around wearing a red mask to keep it that way.

Parassela - Pariah (Home Alone EP)

Parassela - Untitled A1 Barrel dEM
Parassela - Untitled A1

We love a good mystery! So who is Parassela? Apparently, Parasella is the studio live project of Blawan and the Analogue Corps. Their first release on their own album has become a collectors item in less than 40 days. Now the project lands on Restoration, featuring Pariah on track A1, a crossover monster of techno and garage. There's so much distortion, it makes my defibrillator, skip a beat or two.

Tensnake - No Relief (feat. Fiora) (free download)

Tensnake - No Relief (feat. Fiora) Barrel dEM
Tensnake - No Relief (feat. Fiora)

There must be something in the German water that makes such good techno artists. Take Tensnake a.k.a. Marco Niemerski for example. Everything he touches turns to gold and his latest track - No Relief (featuring Fiora) is no exception. The vibe is evocative of a Booka Shade song - and I mean that in the best possible way. The vocals are felt with true conviction and the melody will echo through your domepiece forever! Why is Tensnake giving this track away for free? I don't know, but am not going to complain.

Booka Shade - Love Inc

Booka Shade Love Inc Barrel dEM
Love Inc

I'll be honest ... I could use a lot of love right now, we all could. I had a dear friend pass a week ago today and his wife, another dear friend and her kids are dealing with the fallout. I could use some Love Inc. Thankfully Booka Shade has provided ... with one of their newest tracks "Love Inc". This one is just beautiful ... let's share this and pass love around to one another all over the planet ... 4 REALZ!

20 Years of Ravin'

20 Years of Ravin' Barrel dEM
20 Years of Ravin'

When I was young, I listened to a lot of electronic based music - New Order, Depeche Mode, etc. But it wasn't until the early 90's and in particular 1993 that I got into DJ led dance and rave music. You see, I was stationed in Germany in the military at the time and the rave clubs and parties over there were burgeoning. I got an earful of that repetitive, driving sound and the vibe from all the other participants and I couldn't stop. I wanted to share a few of the anthems that I still listen to after all these years - the ones that were formative in my music education, whether they be techno, house, trance, breakbeat, drum 'n bass, dubstep, trap or downtempo, from that time until the present day.

And back to where it began-

Mic Mills - Moretti

Mic Mills Moretti Barrel dEM
Untzz Records

Mic Mills is a new name on the scene from Adelaide, Australia. His new single Moretti is a throwback to simple percussive beats and layering ... and it works. This is a perfect track for getting some movement going on the dance floor. Look for more great stuff on his Untzz label.

MiniCoolBoyz - In Your Face

MiniCoolBoyz In Your Face Barrel dEM

I'll admit, a lot of techno music just bores me. So, I'm pretty excited when I hear some good stuff that gets my juices flowing. Enter MiniCoolBoyz, the Milano DJ / Producer duo with their track In Your Face - this one is a pumping, driving, whirligig (is that a word?) of a tune that would surely get me on the dancefloor.

Surkin Boiler Room Paris DJ Set

Surkin Boiler Room Paris DJ Set Barrel dEM

French phenomena Surkin will eternally look like he's 16, but his style and technical skills tell a different story. Benoit Heitz, who is actually 28 launched the record label Marble along with Para One and Bobmo in 2011. FRIDAY EPICNESS :: Deodato - Also Sprach Zarathustra

Eumir Deodato (full name Eumir Deodato de Almeida, born 22 June 1943, Rio de Janeiro) is a Brazilian pianist, composer, record producer and arranger, primarily based in the jazz realm but who historically has been known for eclectic melding of big band and combo jazz with varied elements of rock/pop, R&B/funk, Brazilian/Latin, and symphonic or orchestral music. Mainly, his records can be categorized as pop/jazz or crossover jazz. His successes as an original artist (keyboards) occurred mainly in the 1970s. Since then, he has produced or arranged music in more than 500 albums for acts ranging from Kool and the Gang to Björk, Christophe and K.D. Lang.

His first album in the U.S., Prelude, released in 1972, was of a big band Latin jazz style that immediately attracted a wide audience. The album was produced by Creed Taylor on his CTI (Creed Taylor Inc.) label. The nine-minute funky version of Richard Strauss' Also Sprach Zarathustra, entitled "Also Sprach Zarathustra (2001)", won the 1974 Grammy Award for Best Pop Instrumental Performance. It went to No. 2 in the pop charts in the US, No. 3 in Canada, and No. 7 in the UK and was CTI's biggest single. The album climbed to No. 3 in the Billboard chart, the label's best-selling album and an amazing sales achievement for a jazz-based release

LONG LIVE HOUSE MUSIC :: Kingpin Cartel - Ghetto

House music will never die, it will simply evolve, yet the roots of house will always be in need. Kingpin Cartel, the detroit duo made up of Mark Broom and C.J. Baker, capture this idea perfectly in the 2006 release - Ghetto. One hopes that the internet will help save this sound for generations to come.

MEMENTO :: NT89 & Savile - Comb (Hidden Cat remix)

Every memory in your brain is a file stored away waiting to be discovered someday. Many times that file will never be found, but it almost seems magical when it does happen. For example - I was just browsing the Fool's Gold Blog and came across a track by NT89. NT89 ... NT89, where do I know that name? Something with a cat in the name .... and a quick google search later turned up one of my favorite tracks from a few years back. I believe my friend even played it out one time at a party. Here's to memories!
