LOTS OF NEW MIXES BY ME - NO BOATS AKA AABSTRACT

I wanted to, first off, apologize in not attending to this site as often lately. I've been busy with a lot of other things and I sometimes wonder if there's even a point, as it seems people don't even seem to wander away from social media sites. One of the things that I've been doing lately is making actual mixes on a regular basis and wanted to share them here. I'm trying to do something a little different. I am trying to spin every genre that I love and even make some mixes with different genres. Check out my most recent mixes and follow me on Mixcloud. All have download links as well.

TIK TOK :: Gwen Stefani - What You Waiting For? (Jacques Lu Cont's Thin White Duke Mix)

Jacques Lu Cont
Jacques Lu Cont

It's been a while since I've posted and I apologize. I've been going thru some struggles with depression. It feels good to be sharing with you all again. Today's track is a song that I've been looking for since 2008 (I think). I can't be certain of the date, but I went to see the DJ, Dave Seaman at Soundbar in Chicago around that time and this was his closing track. I found it quite easily this time after having tried and failed numerous times before, it's funny how that happens. Anyway, Dave played a great set, and I remember saying to him as he was finishing up - the dumbest thing … "My ex is from Manchester." Which is pretty close to Leeds, England; where he is from. He just said - "Well that sucks!"

As for the track itself, the remix was created by Stuart Price aka Jacques Lu Cont aka Les Rythmes Digitales aka Zoot Woman aka Paper Faces aka Man With Guitar aka Thin White Duke. Stuart is also from the north of England, North Yorkshire to be exact and he creates dope remixes. I'm so glad I was able to retrieve it from the vault of my mind and listen to it again. It's been on repeat, as of late, because it is a great motivational song for just moving the fuck forward in life. It's also good for workouts. So, what the fuck are you waiting for?

CHILLY :: Joachim Pastor - Reykjavik

Joachim Pastor - Reykjavik
Joachim Pastor - Reykjavik
Some people say Progressive is dead. Some say trance is dead. Punk, grunge, shoe-gaze, disco, blah blah blah! Does it matter? Categorizing music is a double-edged sword anyway! The best producers will defy genres anyway. Take for instance Joachim.

Joachim Pastor is a Paris based producer. He is great at what a lot of French producers are great at - the melody. Take Daft Punk, Justice, Modjo, Alan Braxe, Fred Falke, Surkin and DJ Falcon for example ... all great french dance music starts with a great melody. Here Joachim takes us to Iceland with his melodies.

N'to - Live November 2013 WeAre Together

Sometimes, the universe just drops a banger in your lap. In this case it's a whole mix of bangers. I submit, for your approval N'to. I don't know much other than he was born in Marseille, France in 1985 and has been a music addict all his life. I stumbled across this live mix from November 2013 and had to share. It's got all the bells and whistles and horns. Take a peak.

That second track is killing it :)

INCEPTION :: Hans Zimmer - Time remixes

Hans Zimmer - Time & Remixes

Lately, I've been a little obsessed, with sleep, dreams, a movie, and a song. I have been hearing this song everywhere it seems too. In other movies, during a football game, and at work. The song is Hans Zimmer's Time. To truly put it into context, watch the last bit of the movie.

I made a CD for my sister's birthday with the best remixes of  Hans Zimmer's Time and I wanted to share with all of you.

Sometimes, the best version is the live version:

... and when you still can't get enough. I often fall asleep to this and have some wicked good lucid dreams:

Nu Nrg was the early 2000's perfect Trance duo, composed of Andrea Ribeca and Giuseppe Ottaviani - and discovered by Paul Van Dyke ... these guys made history with their label releases on Vandit Records. The music is timeless.

MitiS Life of Sin Pt. 4 Barrel dEM

The future is ours to create. A world free of strife, poverty, greed and war. These are my thoughts as I listen to the latest from MitiS - Life Of Sin Pt. 4. Philly based MitiS a.k.a. Joe Torre is a game changer ... having trained as a classical pianist, he's only recently started producing Electronic music in the last two years. In his own words - "it's the new age classical."

P.L.U.R. :: Scott Henry and Dieselboy - East Coast Science Mixtape (download)

Scott Henry and Dieselboy East Coast Science Mixtape Barrel dEM

In 1996, I picked up a mixtape at a warehouse party that featured Dieselboy and Scott Henry. It saw so much play that as it was wearing out, I transferred it to another tape and got a few more years out of it. Eventually, like my other music possessions, it was lost to the ravages of time. Since then, I had come across the Dieselboy side and have listened to it many times. It might very well be one of my favorite drum n' bass mixes ever. But, it wasn't until yesterday that I decided to listen to Scott Henry's mix again and boy, it sure took me back. It stills sounds as fresh today as it did on that first listen in 1996.

EPIC BREAKS :: Lost Tribe - Angel

In the year of our Lord, 1997 Matt Darey a.k.a. Lost Tribe did summon Angels upon the face of the earth with his sonic reverberations. The Angels brought peace, love, unity and respect to everyone within earshot. Peace reigned for a thousand years or at least until the drugs wore off.

How do you make an incredibly hot track? Well, you take an established track for an incredible band like Hot Chip and give it to a man like Sasha to remix. The outcome is lava from your speakers.

TRANCE DANCE :: Fade - So Good

Back in the mid '90's when I was going to raves every month, trance and progressive house were king. My bro Ajani had picked up a couple of records somewhere (possibly at Satellite Records in Atlanta) that ended up being the most incredible trance tunes I had ever heard. I would later learn that "Fade" was made up by Central Florida producers Chris Fortier and Neil Kolo. Fortier would go on to influence Sasha and Dave Seaman among others.

TRANCE POWERHOUSE :: Craig Connelly (interview)

All things come in cycles. Trance music is not an exception. Once it was so overplayed, it dropped off the radar for a few years, but now it's been reborn. Craig Connelly is a trance DJ / Producer who started along with that second wave of trance. A fairly young fellow from Manchester UK, Craig has already worked with Gareth Emery and others. We had the chance to get an interview from his publicist -

Craig Connelly is one of those artists showing that you don’t need decades in the business to start punching with the heavyweights. He’s already gaining support from the likes of Armin van Buuren, Markus Schulz, John O’Callaghan among many more.
This rising trance star is racking up the Beatport Top 10s, headlining gigs all over the world and has just been added to the ASOT600 line up… Big things are happening for Craig Connelly, we stole a few of his rare free moments for a chat!

So you’ve just returned from playing in Matla for Trancespotting for the first time, how was it different to playing in the UK?
It was quite different; the venue was in the centre of Malta and was a rather mixed crowd.
This month you are also playing Goodgreef’s Full on Fluoro party at Sankeys in your home town of Manchester with Paul Oakenfold, are you excited?
Yeah I can’t wait. I love playing at Sankeys, and it’s awesome to play to your closest fans. I owe them a lot so hopefully I’ll deliver a smashing set.
By day you’re doing the A&R for Gareth Emery's Garuda imprint tell us more about it?
Yeah I basically scout for new music for the label and work on the admin side of things. It’s a great job to have as I get to discuss music all day with other artists and help them release their tracks. Plus I get to release my own music on the label, which means I get more creative control over the release process.
Working with Gareth must mean you developed a relationship with him? Has he taught you anything you’ve found really useful?
Yes I’d say Gareth has been the biggest single influence in my career. I’ve learned so much already, from music ideas like how to execute really big productions to helping me to make the right decisions in my DJing career. The music industry can be a minefield and I’m really lucky to have Gareth around who has been there and done it all. And naturally supporting him on the Garuda shows is a dream come true.
When did you first begin exploring dance music, how were the main influences for you at the time?
My earliest dance music memories came from an under 18’s club in town where my friends and I would go every week. They used to play a collection of European dance and trance, at the time I didn’t really know what it was but I started to collect records and gain knowledge about the different genres. My earliest influence in Trance was probably Paul van Dyk as far back as 2001/2002.
What Tech are you using during your sets?
This is a funny question as I have a Traktor setup at home, but edit/make bootlegs my tracks in Ableton, but rely on CDJ-2000s as the players when I’m in clubs, so quite a mixed bag. Ultimately I’d like to take my Traktor setup to the shows when I can.
Did you start DJing or producing first, and which one do you prefer doing?
I guess It started with collecting records/DJing, but then production took hold and that’s all I ever find myself doing my spare time. It’s been like that for years now I guess, since I was 16/17, so I’ve been writing music for about 10 years. I don’t prefer either to be honest, they are very different and I love both. There’s nothing like playing a full club with people who love your records, but I’m also quite introvert and can spend 12 hours in the studio alone making music.
Over the past 12 months you’ve amassed a lot of Beatport tops tens, what did it feel like to hear that ‘Robot Wars’ had reached #1?
It was awesome, really good to see the hard work had paid off and people really dig my music.
Do you have a favourite club?
To play in it has to be Ministry of Sound in London. But to visit I’m not sure, I was always a big fan of Air in Birmingham.
If you could play in any country around the world with a set with any DJ, past or present, who and where would you chose and why?
It would be playing back to back with someone like James Zabiela, someone really technical. And probably on a beach in Ibiza. Sounds clichĆ© but it would be awesome to play a big outdoor festival when it’s really warm.
You’re from Manchester so are you a Man City or Man United fan?
United. : )
Tea or Coffee?
Decaf coffee as I can’t drink caffine, it sends me loopy!!
Digital or Vinyl?
If I could play on vinyl forever I would but it’s just not feasible with the amount of editing I do in Ableton for my sets haha.
What can we expect to see from Craig Connelly in 2013?
Hopefully a string of original vocal tracks, I’m currently working on 5 new originals at the moment and a few remixes. Also I’d love to mix another Garuda compilation, maybe in the fall.

Underworld - Two Months Off

Remember when you'd go out to see your favorite DJ and dance your face off all night long. Then you'd head to the diner with your friends at 5 am before heading to the afterparty. This song reminds me of those times ... whether it was yesterday, two months off or ten years ago. Two Months Off was the first single from Underworld's album A Hundred Days Off released in 2002. This song is just wow! You hardly hear 9 minutes songs with such intensity these days ... seriously!

1. "Drempels" 00:00
2. "Mr. Tiddles" 01:23
3. "Magnetic North" 06:16
4. "Cloud Cuckoo" 11:33
5. "Immortal" 19:59

8. "Bloodlock" 41:10
9. "Requiem" 49:03
10. "Golden Arm" 55:11
11. "Wavy Gravy" 60:56

Considered by some to be the greatest Trance / Progressive album of all time, Sasha's Airdrawndagger raised the bar in the EDM world in 2002 and greatly influenced a minimal sound which was becoming very popular during that time. This album builds and builds and builds. "Cloud Cuckoo" and "Bloodlock" might be my favorites here, but each track can stand on it's on merit. Along with original tracks created by Sasha, it featured appearances by Charlie May, Junkie XL and James Holden. The final track - Wavy Gravy reached #64 in the UK Singles Chart and was the basis of a remix contest held by Sasha.

BLOW YOUR THONG OUT :: Chris Lake & Michael Woods - Black Thong

This one really gets me hyped! Chris Lake has always been a favorite of mine since he brought one of the greatest progressive tunes ever - Violins a few year back. This time, he pairs with Michaels Woods to bring what might be the floor filler of 2013. Starting with a progressive house melody of synths and piano ... the drop then brings us to electro and bass. This might sound like two songs, but it actually works.
