VonStache: Sandbox Love
Remember Gil Mantera's Party Dream?
Well apparently these synthesizer philosopher brothers have a younger Australian sister with more tattoos and her own hula hooping gogo dance groupies. She's also just finished up her first EP and is busy shooting the music video for the third time. She's perfectionist and fan of food fights, I guess.
Meet Von Stache (Saspot) hailing from the electromusic holy land of Geelong, Australia. Part Party Dream with splashes of Le Tigre, and hefty helpings of sugar, spice and led lights Von Stache belongs on your NYE/NYD/everydamnday plalist.

Thankful for What We've Got (Gangster Leans): William DeVaugh remixes
Oh damn, this groove was the perfect soundtrack for my drive back from a sunset beach trip last Friday. It's funky-as, pushes a positive attitude and gratitude and includes the lyric 'gangster lean' - I mean, c'mon! I texted three people to turn on and tune up their radios to PBS' "Smoke and Mirrors" show to join me in my personal party. Listen to this killer community supported radio station here.
The original William Devaugh track, "Be Thankful for What You've Got" (at the end of this post) is already funky as hell and DJ Day made the mix I heard last week.
Then I go to share it with you and in true SeriousStuff fashion, I find a bunch of other versions that rock my world and pop my hips just as hard. I simply refuse to choose.
And it turns out that Massive Attack's did a version too.. This guy must be getting some serious residual payments..
Oh and by the way, here's the original:

Dolly Parton - Jolene (Kygo Edit)
Dolly Parton - Jolene (Kygo Edit) |
One of the best vocalists, which may or may not be due to her ample bosom is Dolly Parton. Dolly is queen here in Tennessee, with her own theme park in Pigeon Forge - and not without due respect. Dolly has got the skills and guts to make some incredible music. Kyogo has remixed her Jolene into a dance floor banger ... and none too soon!

The Nails - 88 Lines about 44 Women
The Nails - 88 Lines about 44 Women |
The Nails were originally a five-piece New Wave band that formed in Boulder, Colorado in 1976. In Colorado, they were originally named The Ravers, and their roadie, Eric Boucher, later became known as Jello Biafra of the Dead Kennedys. The band members were Marc Campbell (lead vocals, guitar), Dave Kaufman (keyboards), Al Leis (drums), Artie Freeman (lead guitar), and Jon Cormany (bass).
By the late 1970s, The Nails had established themselves on the club circuit and were now composed of vocalist Marc Campbell, bassist George Kaufman, saxophonist Douglas Guthrie, drummer Mike Ratti (Dennis McDermott on Mood Swing), keyboardist Dave Kaufman, and guitarist Steve O'Rourke. Hotel for Women, an EP recorded in 1981, contained an early version of "88 Lines About 44 Women", a song that caught the attention of RCA. The Nails were signed to RCA By Bruce Harris, also known for bringing The Clash to America. In 1984 "88 Lines About 44 Women" was re-recorded for RCA and included on The Nails' full-length debut LP, Mood Swing. The song received regular airplay despite a number of double entendres and lyrical references to masturbation and sadomasochism.
I'd never heard this song, except for this hmmmmm ... hmmmm ... hmmmm ... chorus until my girlfriend, who has a thing for 80's tunes, turned me onto it. I love this girl. Truly a throwback to 80's simplistic sentimalities.

Parassela - Pariah (Home Alone EP)
Parassela - Untitled A1 |
We love a good mystery! So who is Parassela? Apparently, Parasella is the studio live project of Blawan and the Analogue Corps. Their first release on their own album has become a collectors item in less than 40 days. Now the project lands on Restoration, featuring Pariah on track A1, a crossover monster of techno and garage. There's so much distortion, it makes my defibrillator, skip a beat or two.

PURE MAGIC: Dan Deacon - Snookered
Dan Deacon - Snookered |
When it comes to imagination, my favorite artist will always be Dan Deacon. His live shows are legendary - mainly because he prides himself on making the audience part of the show. Whether it's dance contests, communal sing-a-longs or phone apps which sync lights and music, Dan is an innovator. He is a master at layering music - you can hear it in Snookered. That truly is magic.

Today, we present another genius movie dub - 1981's Christiane F. – We Children from Bahnhof Zoo along with Crystal Castles album III. The movie portrays the 70's drug scene in West Berlin. The absolute bleakness of the movie and music fit perfectly together.

Tensnake - No Relief (feat. Fiora) (free download)
Tensnake - No Relief (feat. Fiora) |
There must be something in the German water that makes such good techno artists. Take Tensnake a.k.a. Marco Niemerski for example. Everything he touches turns to gold and his latest track - No Relief (featuring Fiora) is no exception. The vibe is evocative of a Booka Shade song - and I mean that in the best possible way. The vocals are felt with true conviction and the melody will echo through your domepiece forever! Why is Tensnake giving this track away for free? I don't know, but am not going to complain.

There was something so pleasant about that place ... ya know, that place where all the incredible covers come from. Today, we have TEEMID and Joie Tan covering one of the top tracks of the 2000's - Gnarls Barkley's Crazy. On this one, they strip back all the sanity and go straight for the gut. What's left is a haunting rendition that will make you lose your mind!

Daft Punk have just released the video for their track Instant Crush featuring Strokes lead singer Julian Casablancas. The video and song frame up a perfect little love ditty done Daft Punk style. Julian, who was specifically chosen for his former work with the Strokes, helped Daft Punk bring this song to fruition from a demo track that they had lying around.

Sorrow
Greetings fellow e-citizens! It's been awhile since I've posted, but some new tunes I've come across recently have propelled me back into blogging action. Sorrow is a UK-based producer from Bristol, Britain. His productions are immensely unique, and get plenty of replays on my computer.
The first track of his I came across is called "Through the Night"
He also just released an LP this year, entitled Dreamstone:
The entire LP is solid, but the tracks that stood out to me the most were these four:Supernova:
Maeles:

Enjoy! Hope the cold weather isn't cramping your style :D

Nneka: Shining Star (via Joe Goddard)
So Joe Goddard (Hot Chip) remixed this Nneka track... to the tune of over nine minutes with a bunch of fluff at the start and end. Nneka's inclusion of the remix on her YouTube channel cuts it down to all killer in this 3min 15sec version.
I'm all at once addicted and craving and incessantly listening to this track today. The beat, the lyric, the uptempo bounce and the melodic play is all really working for me. I'm astonished that I haven't shared this already.
