Post-punk Glaswegian band Orange Juice broke the mold with their 1982 single "Rip It Up". The song reached number 8 on the UK charts and was not only a major departure from their guitar driven sound but also  the first hit to use the Roland TB-303 synthesizer.

Bloc Party- Better Than Heaven

Definitely my favorite tune off Bloc Party's third album Intimacy .... Better Than Heaven is the perfect platform to show off singer Kele Okereke's vocal talents. The song begins immediately with verse over bass notes and continues until halfway through, the bass notes give way to a guitar driven climax. With lyrics like "You get sadder, the smarter you get - and it's a bore", Kele is telling us that as we lose our innocence - we can become more jaded. But that's ok because "If this world does not turn you on ... well I've got enough for the both of us". Stop thinking, start feeling ... it's only sin, original sin.

Bloc Party - Silent Alarm (Full Album)

Silent Alarm was not only the debut album for Bloc Party but a seminal album for the post-punk / electronic sound that became popular in the mid 2000's. Between lead singer Kele Okereke's unique vocals, kicking drums by Matt Tong, Russell Lissack (lead guitar), and Gordon Moakes on bass; Bloc Party honed their skills to create an indelible sound. My favorite tracks are Helicopter, Positive Tension, and So Here We Are.
